Destinations : Kovalam – Poovar - Vrkala – Kollam – Kovalam - Trivandrum
Day 1 : Arrival in Kovalam
You will be met and greeted by our company representative on your arrival and then transfer to your hotel. Spend your day relaxing on the beach. Overnight will be at hotel.
Today Kovalam has become one of the most popular beach hangouts in India. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and truly the coconut trees along the beaches gives it a ravishing look. Next drive towards Poovar, around 10 kms from Kovalam. It is a place to laze around, soak in the unlimited stretch of green and blue hues that weave the landscape and feast on some sumptuous food. Sightseeing is more like a houseboat cruise on the Paruthiyur backwaters and picnicking on the coconut grove trimmed beach. Overnight will be at hotel in Kovalam.
Day 2 : Kovalam – Poovar
After a leisurely breakfast, drive towards the small coastal fishing island of Poovar. After reaching your destination, check into a hotel.
The village is embraced by a beautiful beach on one side and the backwaters on the other. During high tides, an estuary links it to the sea. It is very close to harbor of Vizhinjam and is a network of lagoons, lakes, canals, estuaries, deltas, interspersing forty-four rivers that join the Arabian Sea. It is a place to laze around, soak in the unlimited stretch of green and blue hues that weave the landscape and feast on some sumptuous food. Sightseeing is more like a houseboat cruise on the Paruthiyur backwaters and picnicking on the coconut grove trimmed beach.
Overnight will be at hotel.
After a leisurely breakfast in the morning, drive towards Varkala. The quiet and secluded Varkala Beach is a haven for sun-bathing and swimming. The evening views of the sunset are worth lingering over. There are several small restaurants and snack shops near and around Papasnanam beach, which attracts the maximum visitors both for leisure as well as for religious reasons. Vettekkada beach is another secluded and picturesque beach a short distance away near Kappil.
Day 4 : Varkala
In the morning, proceed for a sight seeing tour of Varkala. Visit Anjengo Fort and Varkala tunnel.
Later visit Ponnumthurut Island, a beautiful spot you can reach by cruise boat. It also has a Shiva-Parvati temple that you can visit. Overnight will be at hotel.
Day 5 : Varkala – Kollam
Early in the morning, drive towards Kollam (Quilon). Situated at the edge of the Ashtamudi Lake, Kollam or Quilon has been an important spot on the ancient international trade route. Getting its name from the Sanskrit word kollam meaning pepper, this historic port town is the gateway to the backwaters of Kerala. Kollam is an interesting blend of rich heritage, diverse cultures and natural beauty.
Visit Thangasseri – an important historical place, just 5 Km from the town. Its major attraction is a 144 ft lighthouse built by the British in 1902. There are the old ruins of Portuguese and Dutch forts close by. Thevalli Palace on the banks of Ashtamudi Lake is another attraction and has interesting architecture.
Day 6 : Kollam – Kovalam
Today enjoy the calming effect of the beaches in Kovalam. The beaches of Kovalam can be divided in three parts. The southern most beach and the most popular from the three, is the Lighthouse Beach. Further south on the beach one can have a spectacular view of the Vizhinzam mosque, but photography is prohibited here. The middle beach is called Hawah. Each morning this beach acts as a base for the local fisherman. The northern most beach, Samudra, is least affected of all by the changing times. It is dotted with few rudimentary wooden fishing vessels. Overnight will be at hotel.
Day 7 : Kovalam – Trivandrum – Depart
Today drive towards Trivandrum to catch your flight back home.
